My partner has noticed this morning a strange lump/growth on the side of one of his female platys. Sheā€™s still swimming around happily enough and eating, but weā€™d just like to know what this is and if itā€™s something that needs treating (as she lives with a number of other fish).

Tank is 120l and heated to 26C. Ammonia and Nitrite are both 0.00 and pH is 6.

Attached are the best photos I could take.

Could be tumorous... or an abscess...

I think it might be an abscess of some sort.. you can always take them into the vet (I am like 95% sure they see fish but I could be wrong haha).

Iā€™m sure Iā€™ve seen people take fish to the vet too, Iā€™d feel so silly though. Poor fish. She still seems happy enough though. We asked at our LFS who advised giving her salt baths.

Hello :)
You should put her in QT in case of a possible contagion.

Yes you can give her a salt bath but it might be something internal that she is suffering with. I would take her to the vet and have them look at it. They might not be able to do anything or they might make her better.
