I been doing research on my green terror. I got him about three weeks ago and want to make sure im doing things right. I know they are said to be easy to care for but i want to have optimum conditions for him. My tank is 81 degrees F. His tank mates are 6 red tailed loaches 3 rosy barbs and 2 tiger barbs. Hes in a 55 gallon tank with a piece if driftwood, sandy bottom and three amazon swords.

What temperature should they be in? online it says 70-80 degrees F then some sites say 79-86 degrees F

What Type of food show their colors off the most? Currently i feed frozen blood worms brine shrimp and tubiflex worms.

I know theres been a post on them recently a couple days ago but that dealt mainly all on temperament. I was looking more into fish needs. Thank you for your help

I gather he is not very big with you having rosy barbs in with him, they will be on the menu when he gets bigger. You want a good mix of cichlid pellet in his diet too, if he is small you could go for tetra prima or Hikari chichlid gold (they do a small size) I give mine spirulina sticks too. Veg is also good for them, peas, broccoli, carrot (cooked fairly soft) as well as prawns. You can still feed the bloodworm etc but a constant diet of bloodworm and brine shrimp etc is not ideal.
Hope this helps

So long as you keep within those parameters you will be fine, GTs are amazing fish and as they grow their colours come out. I had a breeding pair of these.

The one bit of advice i will give is this, if you get a male and female and they breed, they become EXTREMELY aggresive and need a large tank. They will eat your smaller fish in time as they grow so i would consider rehoming.

Pictures please

Im not to good with the tech stuff, but if i knew how to post some pics i definitely would. I will re home anyone small enough to get eaten into my 125 gal with my uarus and keyholes. Thank you all for the advise ill try to get more of a mix for food and im just keeping one male green in the 55 gal to make sure it doesn't get to crowded for two of them and i wont have to deal with aggression toward each other in the future. But thank you for all the tips. I put the tank temperature to 79 degrees F i assume this will be fine for him.

23-25C is more appropriate for these fish. much like blue acaras

You can upload pics by upi loading them to your computer, then creat and account on photo bucket or Image shack then up load the pics to there then copy and paste the IMG code into the post.
