After seeing Captain Retardo's cories, I've really wanted some, so I decided it was time to convert my tank from gravel to sand. It looks really nice too!

BEFORE (It's an old picture, but it has the gravel, it looked alot different, trust me)

I'm happy, I'm getting new fish soon. All the fish seem to be adjusting fine. I saved almost half the water. So, there's alot of the original water still left. I just hope the plants do fine. The last thing I have to say is cleaning the gravel was a pain in the butt. It took forever, but it was well worth it!

Hi. Ya i think it looks good too; much more natural. I never cared for the brightly coloured gravels (pink, blue, green etc.) I'm glad the switch went well for you! Cories are neat fish, they have interesting personalities.

Very nice on the change IMO. If I hadn't personally found the best natural gravel I could find, I'd be doing something like that :hyper:

Hey, thanks. But Captain Retardo got the sand for me. He had leftovers. I'd like to thank him for the sand. :)

free stuff is always nice

Cories can be suited to fine gravel though... me thinks....

Hey OA! Your tank looks a lot better, although some tall plants would be nice!

BTW- Do you still have some of that sand left over? I think my sand is very low in my tank, and I want to add some more... :)

P.S. If you washed the sand, the cloudyness should clear up within 12-24 hours, it dosen't harm the fish anyway though....

I didn't know that my cories made you want to change the tank! Now I feel like I have an awesome tank!

I wish there was more sand, I used it all. I have the same ammoount of sand as you, I think you might have even more. It's all cleared up now, and I am planning on getting some tall plants.

Mhm! Maybe I should just take the stuff out of the backyard... no, I won't. Who knows what's been in it.

Do you use pesticides of fertilizers? Cause if you do it will kill the fish if you put stuff from your yard into the tank! Also it will turn into mud, which would be kind of ugly and hard to clean!

Hey magafish! Rams are pretty easy to take care of, Bolivian Rams that is, I actually had 2 but it turned out they were both males, and one of them was getting severly harassed so I had to give him away. I want to breed them also! Just be sure about your sexing techniques for rams, there were a lot of threads about it recently...im sure youlll find them in the first 3 pages of the New World Cichlids section ;)

BTW magafish- before you get rams you might want to fix the stocking situation you have in your 29 gallon! (if that is where the rams will be going)
