Hi, never really bothered with Gouramis before so I'm just curious as to what there like in a community tank? There behaviour and so on...

Thinking of getting a pair of them, or a pair of Angels.

Which are the best type of Gouramis to start off with?

I've kept both dwarf and three spot gourami in the past.

Dwarfs are fussy about water conditions are can be very skittish.

I had one gold & one blue gourami which were one of my favourite fish. Both were like best friends and to this day are still together (in a friends 125l tank). They can be tempramental if you have a dominant one (usually by age/size) to if you are going to get 2 then buy them at the same time.

I would also recomend some dither fish to distract them from one another.

Another point to bring up is the reason why I move them out of my tank. They are super messy and would win a poo competition no bother.

I've currently got 3 pearl gouramis and whilst they squabble amongst themselves at feeding time, they leave everything else alone. I think they're very pretty fish and are there's always 1 or 2 out and about in the middle of the tank.

I had an opaline and some dwarfs the first time I had fish a few years ago. The opaline was a bully, I had to move the dwarfs to my smaller tank where they then fought with each other. The opaline then just started bullying the other fish I had at the time when there was no gouramis to go for. But both are very attractive fish.

dwarf gouramis are the most commonly peacful ones also hardy
should go well with angels

trichogaster gouramis such as blue and gold arent the most peaceful but the more hardy

depends on wether you want more hardy or more peaceful the most

over all gouramis are great tankmates for angels
