Gourami color change

We are aware of the Gouramis ability to color change. Ours actually always seemed lightest blue when it was happy and darker when stressed but recently this happened and we dont understand it so we were wondering if it could be age related because it is an older fish. He is literally half light and half dark.

OMG I have something similar with two of the same species. They arrive as Red, White and Blue Gourami's - kind of a silver with Red and Blue stripes. On day I woke up and on was completely black all over. The other one was slowly turning black - which he did eventually - but ever since sometimes they let their colors start to show again, but just on one side while the side will remain black.

Right now I also have a large Orange Gourami that used to bright orange but is now a very pale skin color.
