So I inherited a 10g tank from a friend that kept a frog in it for a long time.

And an empty tank is a sad tank, so.... any suggestions?

I'd love to have a pair/trio of shell dwellers, but I think I'll wait until my next (bigger) tank and do a Tanganyikan community.

What interesting fish can be kept happily in a 10g?

Hi modernhamlet :)

There was a frog in it.............hummmm.............how about some more frogs? :dunno:

Click on the link in my signature for lots of good information about aquatic frogs! These little creatures spend their entire lives underwater and the smaller ones get along fine with many of the small fish. :D

yes, frogs OR 2-3 guppies OR 2 mollies OR 2 platties OR 2 swordtails ad 1-2 ottos. I'm not sure about neon tetras (or others similar in size), since they are shoaling fish and prefer to be in a group of 6 or so. With 6 in a 10 gallon tank, they can't be happy being unable to shoal.

Regarding the frogs, I think the dwarf african frogs are fine and stay small. Clawed frogs will be aggressive, from what I understand. With the guppies, if you plan to get a female, you should expect fry.

It wasn't an aquatic frog. It was one of those monstrous fat frogs that buries itself in gravel for weeks at a time between feedings. She had it for ages before it finally died. The tank is completely empty now.

That said, would a single aquatic frog (African Dwarf? other?) get along well in a 2.5 gallon, filtered, heated, and planted tank with a betta?

If I were to have 4 small corys, what small middle/top level fish woudl be happy along side them?

I've never really considered livebearers, but Endler's might be interesting. Could I have a pair/trio of them with some corys?

I guess I should just visit the LFS and see what they've got that would go well in a 10g... we'll see. I was just hoping for some creative ideas.

I always recommend a dwarf gourami as a great "centerpiece for a smaller tank". IMO, the males are just beautiful and have tons of personality. They get along with a lot of fish too, such as danios or livebearers.

If you want cichlids, you could always go for a pair of rams. :)

Cories are wonderful, I think you should have a few of those and then a few top or middle dwelling fishies. I really enjoy the setup of my 10 - I've got cories on the bottom, gourami everywhere, and danios at the top.

Hi modernhamlet :)

An ADF would do fine with your betta. Just make a little cave for him and he'll be quite happy. This can be as simple as a flat piece of rock leaning against a round one to make a little "lean to."

Corys get along with just about any fish you'd care to put with them. Just be sure to get at least 2 or 3 of them and give them a cave too so that they can have some shade. With corys, it's best to have a fine gravel at the bottom of the tank because they dig into it to find bits of food, and pebbles could injure their barbels. :D
