All right, first of all you should know that I know nothing about planted tanks. That being said, I am looking to put some live plants in my 15 gallon brackish tank (SG 1.005) for my bumblebee gobies that come in next Thursday. Because this didn't start off as a planted tank, the only substrate I have is aquarium gravel. There's no phosphate-rich sandy stuff underneath or anything because I didn't expect to be using live plants, but here I am. So after doing a little reading, I know that I need plants that absorb nutrients through their leaves and only use roots to attach to rocks, wood, etc.
That said, I have some Elodea stuck around the back and sides of the tank and some Java Fern bound to a small log. I really like the look of Crypt Wendtii but I'm not sure if it would work in my tank. Is there anything similar that fits my needs and would survive in brackish water? And would Water Sprite or Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis' be all right? That one is perhaps my favorite I've seen as far as background plants go.
Also, does anyone know anything about Flame Moss? I ordered some off eBay banking on the fact that it would be as hardy as Java Moss.
Will I need to invest in ferts? I don't really want anything too high maitenance. A little pruning is fine, but nothing too complicated. I do have college to worry about--I can't spend all my time taking care of fish. lol
