Hi,

I have had this coral for a couple of months now and it seemed to be doing really well. Due to this I bought another and since this time the original coral does not seem to open its stems.

When the lights are off it seems to open the stems a little but not fully. I have tried moving it to a low flow area but this does not seem to have made a difference

I would welcome any advice about this.

I'm afraid there is no advice I can offer - this is the usual pattern of events with a goni  I wish they were not sold.

Agreed with Seffie.

Sadly they are very difficult to keep alive and nobody is 100% sure why. I fell into the same trap and got one (bad advice from LFS and not enough research on my part). I kept it for quite awhile (about 6 months if I remember correctly) and it was doing well then started to go downhill. I gave it to a local reefer with a much more higtech system then mine and much more experience and even he couldnt keep it. It is one of them corals that shouldn't be sold until it understood a lot better.

Lower light, not too much direct flow and regular feeding is apparently the best bet but even then the chances of it surviving more than a year are slim. IMO there is just something in our systems that is lacking and we havent been able to replicate it properly yet.

I've had mine going for about 2 years strong now. I basicly forget about the coral. I keep it on the bottom in the sand of my 55 gallon tank. I have 2 150 watt metalhalides on it. It has just enough flow to move its tenticles. Its to the point its even budding. People try to give these corals too much care when all they need is to be neglected.
