Goldfish

I have a 46 gal tank, and I was wondering what breed of goldfish and how many I could keep in this tank.

You can have around three lion head goldfish in this tank. Picking the type of goldfish you want first will determine how many you can have.

Perfect to run say 5 black moors. lots of surface plant. I build a shelf at each end. Glue a piece of glass across the end of the tank about 1cm below the water line. The fry will end up on that ledge and can't be touched by the adults. You can then remove the fry.

Ok, how many goldfish do you think that I could have in a 46 gallon tank. Exact dimension are 36"wide 12" long 20" tall.

5 or 6 would be all that I would put in a tank that size.

Ok, how many? I have herad that they get quite a bit larger than the other fancy type goldfish.

I would still say you could have 5-6

Oranda need 20g each fish. They can grow to 9". You could maybe push to 3, if your filter is upto it, they need space to swim so more free space than plant and a rounded substrate not sharp as they like to dig.

Deanasue has always recommended to me 20g for one fancy and then additional 10g for every fancy after.

So on that calculation we get to 4.5 fish
