Hi, we are new to owning goldfish, but seem to have a problem with one of the goldfish, he is a Comet goldfish and he is usually so lively, but the last couple of days, he seems to just sit under the bridge in his tank, he does come out now and again and he is eating, when he is out he is fairly lively, but then goes to the bottom under his bridge! But I have noticed that at the base of his fins, is very red, but the other fish are ok, we also have a common goldfish and 2 fan tails, they all seem ok, we have a 35 litre tank and elite stingray filter, the whole lot was bought from pets at home.

I probrably dont know enough! I also tried to post this in the emergancy section but for some reason it wont let me, so if this is in the wrong place, I do appologise :good:

I cant believe you say it isnt big enough for one fish! the booklet that came with the tank says, stocking levels - 2 x common goldfish 2 x oranda 1 x fantail. The tank is quite large and the fish have loads of room.

I dont know if the 35 litres bit is correct hence the reason I put the dimensions, but, I have seen a lot smaller tanks for sale in shops than this one, and also I have seen tanks in shops with the fish for sale with a lot more fish in than we have!

Tbh i think that tank should be fine for the fish you have provided you keep the water clean etc. I wouldn't add anymore atm but they should be fine.
:good:

wouldn't recommend keeping a common goldfish with the fancy ones though but you may get away with it aslong as you make sure they ALL get food common goldfish often eat it all before the others being faster and larger.
xx

The size of that fish isnt anywhere near the size of our fish! lol the largest fish is the comet which is about 2 inches and the common is about 1.5 inches and the two fantails are about 3/4 inch, the answer to your question is, yes I think they have plenty of room! I know fish grow, and when the time comes to when they outgrow the tank, we will revise the situation :good:

But the main question was about the comet which has redness to his gills?????

opps I meant redness of his fins, not gills!

The tank was set up before christmas and we have been cleaning it and doing partial water changes as per instructions in the booklet that came with the tank.

Is there any sign of rips on the fins, or are any of the fish been nipping on it's fins if so it may have become infected.

no his fins look normal, no rips or tears. just redness on his body where the fins start but not on the fins if you know what i mean!

but also he doesnt seem to be as lively as normal

ok well it took a while to get some photo's of the fish!! it wasnt easy lol
