Ok well i have a 30gallon fish tank with some convits in it. Well dad wants me to down grade to a 10gallon :(... so by by convits. I going to sale them off. And put up a 10gallon tank. I am going to do mollies and platy fish. Maybe male female of molly and platy. something like that. Any way IF i do that, would a molly breed with the platy?

and also about the tank, is there such a thing as black light fake plants? I have a black light behind the fish tank that i turn on at night as my night light, I want to put plants in the tank that glow with the black light. Is there plants like that?

The platy and molly will not breed. As for the plants, you could get glow in the dark plants.

mm cool :D now i got to find some plants lol. Might try my petsmart they might have some of them type.

Also would 2 molly and 2 platy be to many for a 10gallon?

I suggest you have a female and male molly and a female and male platy. I would look at the different kinds of mollys because there are some really cool ones. I have creamcicle mollies, balloon mollies, dalmation mollies, silver mollies, and black mollies. I have a beautiful set of blue mickey mouse platys as well and my female is pregnant so I can wait to see her babies. Kinda sucks that your dad is making you down size, but remember if they have fry you will have to seperate them into a different tank cause mom and dad will eat them. Good luck!

Ya i know if they breed i know i would have to put fry in something else. I work over at a pet shop any way and my manager told me any way i can bring the fry in if i want to and set a tank up there with them in it.

I have 3 black Lyretail Mollies - I originally had a pair but the male would literally chase the female round the tank non stop and she seemed pretty stressed!

I eventually got another female and it seems to have worked he has calmed down quite a bit - this may be worth thinking about if you go for the Molly option.

The two females used to be quite agressive but now the bigger original female has made it clear she's the dominant female all is peaceful.

It can be a bit chancy trying to go with a single pair of common livebearers. Sometimes it works out and other times it doesn't but if you keep an eye on things the 4 fish will be a better stock level than 6 fish in a tank that small.

2 females 1 male would be the general rule of thumb for common livebearers. That would then add up to 6 fish and be fine for that sized tank.

I would keep in mind that mollies need hard alkaline water and that they prefer a little warmer temps than platy's. They are also herbivores that should be fed a staple diet of vegetable flake food as opposed to meaty foods that your cichlids? enjoyed.I personally think them Ill suited for anything less than 20 gal due to aggressive behaivor at breeding time. Lots of plants either live or artifical, can help provide areas for fish to retreat to and for fry to hide in to prevent adult fish from eating them. I would maybe have some floating live plants for young fish to hide in and also to feed from.
Is good that Local fish store is willing to take the fry off your hands or otherwise,,your ten gal tank could become crowded within three or four months, resulting in difficulty maintaing water quality.
