I upgraded my filter last night. Here's what happened:

1. I got the new filter out of the box, looked at all the pieces, then sat down and had a drink.
2. After figuring out how it all fits together, and that the hosing needs to be cut, I assemble everything.
3. I take the top off the filter and actually add the sealing ring and stuff, doh
4. I take the top off the filter again and take all the included media out of the plastic bags.
5. With the filter all set up, I turn it on, makes horrible noise so I unplug it
6. I prime it
7. I turn it back on, it makes a little noise and clears out some air and away it goes.
8. A bit later I'm sat looking at my tank, wondering why I gotan external filter if I'm going to leave the old one in the tank.
9. I turn off both filters, open up the external take media tray cover thing off.
10. Open up old filter, take media out and add it to new filter.
11. Put lid back on new filter, only making a little bit of mess...
12. Filter back together and switched on, somethings not right... What's this plastic by my side?
13. Filter off opened up, media tray cover now put back in place.
14. While putting top back on filter I lose probably a third of the water to the floor.
15. Reprime
16. Switch on

well that was fun... Ha ha ha :p

And now!!! I feel really really guilty.

a few of the fish used to love swimming up and down behind the filter... now it's not there, they seem lost, but it does mean they're exploring more of the tank...

isn't it weird the way we feel gulty or tiny things...

I do feel like a bit of an idiot though, but not so much that I can't see the funny side

lol. setting up a filter under the influence should be illegal.

cheers :good:

I only had coke, in the last 4 years I've had a small glass of champagne on my wedding day, and a small glass of champagne when my daughter was born, other than that i don't drink... it's all from pure stupidity

At least if you had a drink of alcohol you could blame it on that!

Personally, I cringe whenever I have to mess with the filtration. I just cleaned my external a bit as part of today's water change as I haven't messed with it since December. Emptying out the really (and I mean really!) dirty water and rinsing the top tray media a bit. I turned it on only to discover with all the air bubbles escaping I managed put more rubbish in my tank from the dirty hoses than was there before...doh! :(
Next time I'll clean the hoses too...

when i got my external i set it all up turned it on then for some reason i opened it up again while it was still on...........my laminate flooring now has a bump in it from all the water making it peel back up :p

managed to hide it from the parents with a rug :good:

we all make mistakes XD lol

Lol. I have to admit that I ended up with water all over the floor a couple of nights ago when the stupid plastic clip on my fluval external decided to snap on me.
Who's stupid idea was it to make the levers and clips on the filters out of flimsy plastic!!!

it seems that i'm the only one who hasn't failed epically with filters. although when i first got my tank, my dad pulled out the bit on the filter where the pipes attach to, too hard, and got a face full of water. of course, he blamed it on me.

cheers :good:

Well, guess what, yesterday I lifted the lid of my aquarium (as I have done for the last two weeks!!!) and noticed something weird behind the halogen bulb! I touched it, shifted it a little and then proceded to pull it out! They were soaking wet, neatly folded instructions on how to use and attach the aquarium lighting!

doesn't have to be filters either, lets have a laugh at your expense

"hello, AA? yeah I think I have a problem, I'm at home why? No my car's fine, what's that got to do with my drinking problem?"
