Care: Being very active little fish an aquarium of at least two feet would be suitable.
They squabble constantly and chase each other without causing any damage. A shoal of at least six is preferable. They are easy to take care of, are hardy and adaptable like other danio species. This is a natural species not to be confused with the genetically modified glowfish. They are jumpers; I wouldn’t keep them in an open top tank. A temperature of 23C-27C (73F-81) and a ph of 6.5-7 are ideal though they do fine in harder water and higher ph. An excellent hardy beginner fish.
Feeding: They accept any dry, frozen or live foods appropriate to their size. They feed and live mostly in the mid and upper levels of the tank.
Sexing: Males are slimmer and a little more colourful than females. It is difficult to distinguish the sexes until the females are mature and holding eggs.
Breeding: They spawn in typical danio fashion. It is best to have heavy foliage in the bottom of the tank something like moss. The parents will eat the eggs and fry. At a temperature of 24C the eggs hatched in three weeks, the fry need infusoria as a first food, they reach adult size in about six months. I have had some fry survive with the parents due to heavy planting.
