So; I have 3 glofish. Their names are Elmo(red), Oscar(green), and Burt(orange). They are like the coolest things in the world and I love them! Hence, I would like to get tips on how to keep them happy and healthy so they can live a long time!
Thanks!<3

Just to let you know, depending on where you are in the world, they are actually illegal in the UK.

why are these illegal ?
answered my own question on google tbh they look good but its wrong to do this and sell them

I don't think they are illegal, but people don't like them morally.

Glo fish are basically dyed fish. Some of them are cruelly injected with dye, which stressed them and can poison them. However, many a Danios that have been genetically modified to produce the colour. This was for scientific experiments. These 'glofish' act and reproduce normally, just like a Zebra or Leopard danio.

To the original poster, if you are interesting in researching them, they have are the same as Zebra and Leopard Danios, and should be treated the same. In fact...

i think glofish have glofish fry aswell if its the ones im thinking of i think they are injected with somethink from jellyfish that is passed down to fry. the ones that are dyed dont pass it down to fry though.

Glofish aren't injected with dye, glofish is a trademark, and the fish are genetically modified at the embryo stage, an enzyme is used to cut away at part of the DNA, the new gene is then inserted and is incubated, if two glofish reproduced the fry would be all glofish, however if a glofish and a normal zebra danio reproduced you would get 50% glofish, 50% zebra danios.

saw a tank full of young parrot fish today at my lfs about 20 mixed pink and blue you could see where the needle had gone in and the dye had just started spreading made me feel sick to be honest

Have seen some as well last week, also pink widows (pink tetras)
Glo fish are completely different though, as their genes are modified. It doesn´t harm the fish. Of course we still have to ask ourselves if we should modify genes, same as gen modified maize or soja. I think in terms of animal welfare it´s ok to keep those fish (not the dyed/tatooed ones)They are certainly healthier than all those poor lionhead (and worse) goldfish, produced by traditionally breeding.

Heya!

These Glofish are actually a species of danio that has been genetically modified.

They are active, fast swimming fish that need to be kept in shoals of at least 6 members, ideally more, and they need quite a bit of space. A 15-20 gallon tank is a minimum size - despite seeming small and often being sold to go into little "fun tanks", they do need quite large environments!

They also need fairly cool temperatures - 65-75 F or 18-24 C

Have you cycled your tank? Do you have a filter?

Its the same issue with the mice with human ears on their backs, should we genetically modify animals for human purposes. Personally I think not, although opinion is divided on the subject...
