Posted this elsewhere as well but....

Went to a LFS today and found 10gal tanks for $15 (US). Seems rather inexpensive. Just wondering if in anyone's experience they know whether the glass will be too thin for a mantis on the side. I will be using acrylic to line the bottom but am worried about a mishap on the sides. The tank gave no information on the thickness of the glass. Due to my lack of experience, I can only describe it as "average" thickness haha

Do you know the dimensions of the tank, and do you think you could measure it next time?

I'll have to go back and do measurements. I can probably go tomorrow. The glass on them doesnt seem thin at all, probably around 1/8" thick. I just didnt know if there is usually variation in glass thickness between manufacturers and whatnot. i.e. more expensive tanks come with thicker glass....

you will generally find that most glass on tanks up to 2ft are between 4 and 6mm thick, 2ft to 4ft are between 6 and 10mm.

Anything above 4ft i could not say.

Alright, thanks. I just wasnt sure if there was thickness variation in same-size tanks.

If memory serves, the "standard" 10g tank is 20x10x12" (LxWxH)

Glass thickness is determined mostly by the height of the tank. Up to 2 feet tall will be done in 10mm. 30" tall will be 12mm and above that you are in the realms of the super expensive 15mm+ thickness

In my FW tank (60cm x 30cm x 35cm), the glass is 5mm thick. (13.8" high)

In my SW tank (134cm x 74cm x 66cm), the glass is 10mm thick. (26" high)

Thanks guys. Bought 2 10gal tanks today. Need to drill one for bulkheads and wait for plumbing parts to get here. Then the fun begins.
