Give This Guy A Peice Of Ur Mind

1) nobody "impulse buys" a $200+ fish

2) while no "adult size" is mentioned, he's not lying about what it is either.

3) it was probably accidentally included in a shipment from S. America. what's he supposed to do? dig a special multi-thousand gallon pond? euthanize it?

4) aquabid is something of a site for specialists...

personally, i think that we shouldn't harass people if they're not doing anything, you know, wrong.

i don't know anything about the fish species but when i looked at it the auction info was "5-6 INCHES....EATING WELL....SHIPPING AIR CARGO OR FED-EX $65.... " i don't know if he changed it or what, but i can't say anything about it. if you don't know what it is or feel that the person isn't selling it responsibly then don't buy it. i wouldn't pay $135 + $65 shipping for a fish i know nothing about. i agree with what is said above

I wish I could have them, arapaima are my faves... if you've ever seen a 11' adult you know what amazing creatures they are, but obviously they're more of a public aquarium/tropical pond kinda thing. There's nothing wrong with the auction itself though, in my opinion. If you don't know what you're getting into when you buy them it's your problem.

If they were saying it could happily live in a 30G or some such nonesense, fair enough. As it is I agree with what's been said above, there's no problem.

jollysue..the fish can grow to 11 feet. SH

Okay I don't see a problem with the auction however I do think adding ADULT size might help. But As someone said if you are buying this fish at that price you should have a clue! I hope

From that picture and that presentation with no info at all worth while, like folks are saying, who wants it? Without any idea what it is, it's not very appealing on it's face. They don't say, "This guy is the BOMB. He'll eat your face off!." You'd want some kind of idea what it is. I mean if they were hawking it... Nobody ever tells me anything about the fish I buy on AB, unless I ask. I might make some foolish buys and choices, but AB warns repeatedly to ask the seller before you bid. When was the last time anyone bought a $75 + shipping and handling Thai Betta and was warned, "If you are lucky this beauty will breed for a year and live two years; if you aren't lucky he'll jump out of the tank and kill himself or die of fin rot."

just in case u guys were very distrought over the arapaima gigas talk thats been goin on lately and someone wanted to talk to this guy about what he does or how he keeps thats all

has any1 else noticed an awful lot of posting abut them

Holy Crap! How does anyone house one of those things? And especially, why? They'll end up with one hell of a job when the full grown fish dies, they'll have an 11 foot >800lb corpse to pull out of their pond. I don't envy anyone in that situation.

11 foot isn't that common in captivity, it isn't that coommon in the wild anymore either due to overfishing. Seeing one past 8 feet is doing pretty well these days, hence them turning up on CITES list II.

As for the corpse, they are an important food fish, so I guess you just need a whole load of tatties for Fish and chips for a month. However, being such a large fish I would expect a fairly sizeable life expectancy (20-40 years)

Well bring out the 100 gallon and lets start bidding!! lol
8 foot is still large, what the heck is he going to do with it if it doesn't sell? Pop a beer and start the grill?
