Starbust is my granddaughters baby. We have had him 2 months and I'm guessing he was about 3 months when we got him. He seems to have doubled in size and is now around 6" long. Everything seems fine apart from his forward facing gills. Does this definitely mean he is stressed or could it just be normal for him? I have now put foam over the internal filter outlet to keep the water flow down but the filter is quite noisy and the ammonia levels are fine.

I know absolutely nothing about this beastie but it looks really cool.

You state that ammonia is OK but what are your PH, Nitrite and Nitrate levels? Also what is the tank size? If you supply this info I still will not be able to help you but the info may help others give help.
