Hi guys, my first post here and also my fist fish tank. Basically my fish tank was given to me by my cousin. It's a 32Litre tank with 5 neon fish, 2 catfish and 1 fighter fish.

The only problem i've encountered since acquiring the tank is snails. He told me i'd get some but i cleaned the tank out yesterday and got rid of most of the snails, or that's what i thought. Today i seem to have even more snails.

I was thinking about adding a Loach to try and stem the problem but i'm not too sure if that would be the right idea as i dont want one to harm my other fish. Any advice you guys have for me is very much appreciated and if i've put this in the wrong section then apoligies :)

First of all , welcome aboard :good:
Not sure about adding a loach because of tank size but I'm sure one of the more experienced folks will help with that one, is it pond/pouch snail or Malaysian Trumpet Snails (bury in sand), I believe overfeeding can cause a snail explosion, one method is to add a weighed down piece of lettuce just before lights out and in the morning it should have snails on ready for removal, another is ading some assassin snails, they will not breed so quickly replacing one problem with another, once your snails are gone you can sell your assassins on or keep them , they make a great addidition to any tank, hope this helps :good:

Thanks for the reply, I didn't think adding a loach would be the best idea due to the size of the tank anyways. I think they're pouch snails because they're of the sides of the tank and on the plants but their are some on the bed of the tank.

I wouldn't of thought that over feeding was the reason but i may be wrong, they get fed twice a day. I will probably try the weighed down lettuce idea first before adding an assassin snail because as you say its just replacing one problem with another.

thanks again :)
