Just thought I would share a pic or two of George & Mildred my two Krobia that I purchased from Wills a few weeks ago. They currently co-habit with my geophagus and although they are very shy with people in the room they aren't shy in the tank

They aren't the best pics but they are the best I can manage with their shyness at the minute

looking good I don;t recognise them at all

Ah great to see they have settled in so well! They are shy around people but feeding time brings out their attitude haha! It was a shame to see them go but my tank really was not right for them.

Mark they are Krobia sp.Rio Xingu Red Cheek. Yet to be described but are part of a mid sized acara family these in particular get to about 4/5 inches and the orange you can see intensifies and the males sometimes get green around the face a bit like a GT.

Wills

They're doing great Wills! They've pretty much taken over the tank!

I made them a den specially out of drainpipes and bogwood which they have taken to instantly and don't let anyone else near. Noticed today that one of them is digging a pit at the opening of one of the pipes, though I've always had the impression that they are the same sex so I dont expect much from it  They don't half protect their den though lately!
They are getting very confident too, they stay out whilst people move around in the room now and only hide once the movement is right in front of the tank.

Thanks for the comments folks :good:

Lovely fish, another species worthy of a journal I'd say :)

Lot's of nice fish being posted about lately, I'm in need of a new fish fix, I need to get rid of a few first though!

Hi
Thanks for the comments. A journal you say! hmmmmmmmm might be an idea there! :good:

As for you ridding of fish, I'd gladly take in some of your Rotkeil and Tapajo's should you ever wish to part with either! Would have to be posted or couriered though :look:

as of yet undescribed eh? gotta love a bit of exclusivity :good: are they a confirmed m/f pair?

Hi,
I aren't too sure if I'm honest. I have spoken to a guy I know who has bred them in the past and the only real way of sexing visually is by size. These are not fully grown yet though so it's hard to judge, though they do tend to stick together a lot and follow each other everywhere. So unless Wills can say any different I suppose only time will tell :good:

The first pic is your female, see if you can get a pic of the other one showing the dorsal and anal fins.

I have a male and female, they have attempted to spawn seen breeding tubes down but no eggs as yet. My female is a lot smaller than the male, you can just see her hiding in the pic.

I will try and get some better pics of mine help you check if you do have a male and female.

I always suspected that these were 1 male and 1 female just because of the time they spent together. IME some acara species dont do well in single sex groups.

I wonder if that is what's up with my Metae, the largest always now seems to hang around with Chops, the next largest sort of does his own thing, but the 2 smaller ones dont seem to be alowed out much. I have a feeling the 2 smaller ones might be female, but its really hard to tell they are so alike!
