ive got a 130L 4ft tank, could i fit another pair in ? i did have an apisto that was waiting for a mate in the new year, but he died yesterday and i havnt decided whether to get an apisto pair or go for something else now. apologies for my filthy glass

First is female, second is male. Probably yes: I have had two pairs in a tank that size before, but it was heavily planted.

thanks for the help, least i know the guy at teh shop knows what hes doing. dont know if its the wrong thing to think, but when i was considering apistos i generally just thought they would have the same behvaiour as the rams. the apisto i had gave no hassle to the rams and vice versa, yet they spent a lot of time in eachothers company. im not trying to breed the rams, and im not really fussed if they do or dont as i dont have a tank for fry, are they more docile when not trying to breed ?

Rams are, in my experience, considerably less aggressive than Apistos.. but I have seen a few individuals who did not fit into that description. Honestly, it should not be a problem, but they will insist on territories if they ever breed.

In my experience, German Blue Rams are slightly more aggressive than Apistogrammas. Probably because my pair are really territorial, and chase any fish away. And they flare at me :-( :shout: :hey: But when they breed, they will become considerably more aggressive. I have multiple male Apistogrammas and I haven't had any sort of aggressiveness yet ^_^ (but probably because they are not fully grown)

I had a pair of Rams and a pair of Apistos with no bother at all, they`ll find their own territory and you`ll probably find they`ll all be fine together. One thing I would say from your pics is that the Rams look like they need feeding up a bit, especially the male ;)

thanks for that. ive only had the male about a week, i always seem to struggle making my fish grow, apart from the odd one or two. ive got 2 different types of flake, 2 different types of pellet, frozen daphnia and bloodworm, algae discs and veg, my water is great so it always confuses me to why they dont grow. i feed twice a day, mixing and matching between the food i have. but oh well.

just to check, will a pair of Bolivian rams mix in ok ?

in my experience, rams are not aggressive at all!

They're usually not aggressive, but they certainly can be, depending on the individual fish; I've got a female ram that's killed 9 green neons and two male rams in the year I've owned her :(

I`ve had Bolivians and Rams although not together. I personally wouldn`t mix Rams with Bolivians myself :/

its been a while since ive last had one but i got one today - how can you tell the genders?

You shouldn't really mix Bolivians with German Blue Rams. I've tried it before and they can get really territorial even when they are not spawning. If you were to mix them I'd strongly suggest acquiring a 2 metre long aquarium so each species have sufficient space to themselves and each have their own feeding area etc.
