i've had a red tailed garra now for about 6 months, over the last 3-4 days he's been constantly swimming from the bottom to the top in a big circle.
when i turn the lights out i keep hearing a splashing sound, like he's trying to jump out off the water.
in the morning there's a dip in the sand along the front off the tank were he's been swimming back an forth, he's still eating but not as much.
i've checked the water states, an everythings ok,i do two water change's a week.
i no the water's fine as i have rams an shrimp in the tank an there ok!

any ideas on wot he's doing?

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Can you post your water stats please.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing or laboured breathing.

Trying to jump out of a tank can be a numbers of things from ph shock, toxins in the water, parasites.

Sorry said how long you had the fish for.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
He sounds stressed are his fins clamped.
When you say he swim in circles does he do it very fast or just slow.
How does his body weight look does he look thin or bloated.
Have you seen him go to the toilet if so what does it look like.
Can he maintain his balance in the water.

the buttery fly is the newest fish had him about a month, all the others 6-8 months.
he looks fine good color no different to normal body weight is the same.
he does swim fast.
i haven't seen him go to the toilet.
his balance is fine.

he is eating i put a slice of cucumber in earlier an he's eaten some, but normally Finnish all of the soft middle off

Swimming really fast in circles can mean the fish is dying, swim bladder, or brain damage to internal parasites.
Dosn't swim to oneside does he or turn upside down or headstand.

When he swim in circles does it look like he spinning fast in the water.

he just swim up near the top of the tank then back down, some times he stop for a few sec's on the bottom then starts again.

It would of been good if you seen the fish go to the toilet.
Check his anus to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Is his belly sunken in.

When he goes off the bottom of the tank or top is he struggling and floating back down to the bottom of the tank.

i'll keep an eye out for him going to the toilet, anus looks fine, he's not struggling at all he looks fine an swim's with no prob's.

Dosn't sound like swim bladder then.
Signs are.

Signs of internal parasites are.
Long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Looking thin or bloated.
Sunken in belly.
Bent spine sometimes.
Enlarged anus, red inflamed anus.

thanks for the info.
but he doesn't have any of them signs.
i'll just keep an eye on him.

Keep a look out for when your other fish go to the toilet aswell.
How are the other fish acting?

If the fish carries on spinning fast in the water I would put him out of his misery.
Fish never seem to make it once they spin fast, I had it once with one of my fish.
