I have a fry FW tank that is getting overrun with snails, and I'm too much of a sissy to just crush them. Would they really muck up my water if I fed them to my blue spotted puffer? Most of them are pretty small...wasn't sure if they would just sort of "melt" once I dropped them in the water.

they might do similar to a slug when you put salt on them?

Do puffers only eat live snails? You could try feeding them to the puffer and removing them if he doesn't eat them right away. Otherwise dead snails = ammonia city.

Interesting, why don't you make a little feeder and put a couple of snails in there for the puffer to try - that way if he doesn't take them straight away you can get them out before the tank is polluted.

I have tried it the other way round - put salt water snails in fresh water for fig 8 puffers - they ate them before they had a chance to go rotten, within about half an hour

Ok, I'll try one or two of the small ones. I think if I drop them in right in front of him, he'll take care of them. Thanks :)
