Hi guys,

I've noticed a few illnesses in my tank over the last few days, something that I've never experienced in the last few years, so I guess I've been lucky so far.

My juvenile platy is pooping some long stringy white poop, and I'd like some advice on whether this is something that requires treating.

Another issue is with another platy that had a lump inside the abdomen, almost like a sunken hole with a mass visible internally when viewed through the light. This little guy had to be removed recently as he clearly was on his last, resting on the bottom looking exceptionally skinny. I removed him in case he does while I was at work, so that the healthy fish wouldn't snack on unhealthy flesh.

No other fish currently or have ever shown any signs of disease.

I feed the fish flakes, frozen blood worm (though not this week) and deshelled peas.

I'm also wondering whether the heavy planted tank has any effect, though this would be the case with several fish, not just the one?

Any input would be greatly appreciated! I love my platy tank, and I really want to ensure the rest stay healthy.

Thanks!

Hm, I'd replied to this but it seems that it didn't send.

I just wanted to say thank you for the reply, it's much appreciated!

I had a read of the topic. I think that the recessed stomach mentioned is slightly different to my fish, as mine began with a patch that was as though a chunk was taken out of him, though it wasn't sore externally, with a visible mass inside.
I'm hoping this was a one off random health issue, as the fish in this tank have been together for a month without any other fish showing like symptoms.

The funny fish poop I'm also hoping is a separate issue due to the time scales.
In any case, the fish poop situation has cleared up in that particular fish (no other fish exhibiting) - I'm going to keep a close eye for the next few days and make a speedy trip to the LFS if my gut tells me something's wrong. I've spend the last year collecting some lovely platy specimens, and I'd be quite sad to see any of them go.

Thanks again for the reply :)
In the mean time, if any other issues come to light I'm sure I'll quickly be back. Or if anyone has any other suggestions or things to keep an eye on, that'd be great :)
