That 'Merry' Christmas used to be frowned upon, because it implied drunken debauchery!
'Happy' Christmas was deemed to be more appropriate.

Very interesting, I didn’t know that. I actually prefer Happy Holidays.

For some reason, the US of A chose to lose the emphasis on actual 'Christmas' and substitute the 'Holidays' instead.

Christmas was considered offensive by some non-Christians. Due to complaints, some public nativity displays were removed to avoid offending those of other faiths.
