Ok, two quick questions?

My Platy has developed a white fluffy spot on it's side. This comes a few days after i noticed a bit of her tail missing, almost loke finrot.

What is the best treatment to use?

Can it be added to my main tank in situ, or am i better to treat the Platy separately in quarantine?

perhaps a joint mixture of melafix and PimaFix as Platies are quite hardy and melafix and pimafix seem to work for a broad spectrum of diseases

Are these by waterlife? Should I isolate the platy to treat it so i don't have to treat the whole of my 60l tank? I have a quarantine tank set up that will be ready soon that i can put her in.

I would rather use myxazin and pimafix as if its a columnaris spot there really hard to get rid off.

Are these by waterlife? I'd rather treat the platy in isolation, use less meds, save treating my other fish when i don't need to etc.

The spot appears to be on her lateral line, is that like a weak spot where fungus or infections first appear?

it's just a white, slightly fluffy spot. No redness or inflamation that i can see at the moment. I did notice a small bit of tail missing earlier this week, could that be related?

Sounds bacterial yes, just keep an eye on the spot.

Bacterial as in columnaris or similar. I'll observe it for the next day or two, it will give my hospital tank more time to mature.

Sounds like the spot bacterial, columnaris shows itself in many ways even spots.
One of my guppys years ago had a columnaris spot on his head and died, it was a greyish spot with a red spot in the centre and also you can get a red circling around the edges of the spot.

Quick update, went to the lfs and instead of getting the myxazyn and primafix coctail, i've stumped for a bottle of melafix. I'll try the almost natural methods for a few days, see what happens. If it gets no better or worse i'll resort to the stronger meds, but for now i'll wait and see.

The melafix appears to be working, the spot has cleared, and the piece out of the tail appears to be healing. It's also helping one of my guppies with a split tail too so all good all round. I'll treat again tonight, then probably stop at the weekend if all is well.

Ok, that post this morning was perhaps a bit premature. The spot has returned on the platy, and there appears to be a pinkish patch on my gourami that i haven't noticed before.

Added melafix again and hoping that will help the fish to clear it. otherwise it's off for some stronger meds!

read my post on columnaris. If it is that you will need to up the airartion, lower the temp and get some antibiotics from the vet or similar to add to the food. melafix alone will not cure columnaris as it attacks internally too. it does help with the healing but it takes air out of the water and this will need to be uped as columnaris thrives in low oxygen.
Good luck
I hope it isn't columnaris it really isn't good news. in 12 days it killed 5 scissortail raspora 2 tetra and two silvershark in my tank but only two fish died after the med food was given. turn your temp down first and foremost and add as much air as possible.
