I first kept this species more than 20 years ago. easy to keep and breed although still a nice looking fish.
I use spawning mops I remove eggs and put them into a small container to hatch then grow them on tthey've been

E. dageti are awesome. You seem to have a lot of Killifish. Are you an AKA member? I am. Just joined in August. I'm hooked and am looking forward to the adventure. Really want to try a soil spawner. Maybe find me some N. guentheri eggs.

in the UK we have killifish auctions I have many friends keeping and breeding killifish one in particular breeds peat spawning killifish nothobranchius species

if they spawn so easily, why are prices for the very colorful ones so high?

Not many people keep or breed them. Most people think killifish are hard to keep and breed and to be honest, most people have never heard of them, let alone thought of keeping them.

Most shops don't carry killifish so customers don't see them. The fish are generally short lived 1-2 years, and are quite small and inconspicuous so people don't see them in the shop tanks.

Years ago one of my friends who specialised in killifish, set up a tank for them in the shop. Within 2 weeks of that tank being set up with killifish in, we had customers coming into the shop wanting to buy them. The same thing happens with rainbowfish, they are drab and silver and boring for the first 6 months of life. But when they mature and colour up, they are a whole new thing. Most shops don't have display tanks with the unusual fish in so people can see them in good conditions.

The English seem to take their hobbies more seriously than Americans do and cater to them more. What Colin said was right on. Killies are kind of a fringe specialty fish. The average hobbyist seems perfectly content with fish they can just watch and there's nothing wrong with that. Breeding any fish takes some work and more than a passing fancy.
