Fry This Morning!

GUPPY FRY ARRIVED THIS MORNING!!!

The smaller female guppy has given birth to 13 fry as of 9:34 am. I still see black gravid spot so I am not sure if she is finished!!

I don't know what to do now cause there are 2 females in the 10 gallon tank! The mother and another female who I thought would have hers first!! She is much bigger!

I have a floating plant in there. The adults always stay above it and the fry are always below..... will that be ok?

Also the bottom of the tank is a bit dirty...should I try to vacuum it or just leave it??

When my Plattys had fry I was advised that I should continue tank maintenance, and water changes etc just the same as before. Be careful u dont suck up any fry!

In my guppy baby/growout tank, I keep the bottom of the tank bare of gravel or sand. This allows me to simply use a piece of tubing to suck up the "goo" on the bottom. It is crucial to keep the tank clean for the babies - and with all the feeding you'll be doing, you'd be suprised how filthy the little piggies can be.

I change about 10-20% daily, or minimum every other day. I look really carefully in the water before I dump it - often I have to fish one or two of the little ones out and put them back in the tank.

If your tank is dirty, you should clean it. If you see fry near the bottom, just suck it up with a turkey baster or even with the syphon IF the tubing is big enough. For a good security plant for the fry, i always use live moss. It's perfect for the fry to hide in. Are these your first fry? Congrats with your new fry and raising them!

Yes these are my first fry. When you say you use moss, is it right from out side, or the pet store???

I live in an area where there is lots, but I would be afraid it would kill them.....


I siphoned the tank with a hose, all went well....

How often do you feed them?? 3 times /day?? I have powered the flakes tiny!

Moss from the lfs would be the safest choice. I fed my fry 3-4x a day with finely, finely crushed foods like flakes, dried tubifex worms and dried blood worms.

Yeppers Raising live bearer fry is generally all the same.

congrats. After the mothers are done u need to take them out or the fry will be eaten. the tank should also be kept clean and water change is a must.
