I'm planning on getting my Glo tetras some friends since I only have 3 of them and they're schooling fish, Glo Tetras are kinda expensive and I don't really want to buy them, are there any other kinds of fish that would make a nice school with them? They live with a CAE, if that changes anything. Thanks for any help!

All tetras need to be kept in groups of at least 10 of their own kind. There aren't really any other tetras that look like Glowlight tetras, so the ones you have are unlikely to school with other species.

Do you have any pics. They are probably skirt or widow tetras. You can get these a lot cheaper as they have not been modified. Post a pic though in case the ones you have are something else.

That's why we need pics, Colin and I both assumed you meant something different ;)

Whoops, they're Glofish Tetras ^^" Here's a Pic of one of them. You can see the other 2 and the CAE if you look closely :)

Those are black skirt tetra or black widow tetra (same thing different name). The also occur naturally in white or gold, so you could get any of those. The brightly coloured ones are achieved by genetic modification or by injecting dye under their scales. Personally I am not a fan of either technique but your fish will happily socialise with their natural cousins, which will also be much cheaper to buy.

That's great! Will it have the same effect of schooling?

I don't keep this type of tetra but I did recently post a general description of shoaling behaviour in tetras in this thread.

.
I'm not crazy about them either. Something about them just ain't right. If you put their non-mutant relatives with them it could wind up being some kind of X-Men thing. Magneto and Gloverine. Don't chance it.
