I know people use them for there marine aquariums and it helps a lot with keeping water clear and clear right? I was just wondering how you make one. I have got a 3' freshwater tank about 20 uk gallons, and i wanted to know if it was worth making one for my tank as i love my tank to look clear and clean.

can any one help??

TANK SIZE.

36" 12" 12"

eg 20.23 Gallons (@ 90% full)

It is a llot like any other filter. Whereas water is pulled from the tank then passed down into the sump. It is generally another aqurium divided into sections. These sections contain the filter media and the water is forced to pass through each stage of filtration. Then the filtered water is passed back into the tank. If you have a spare tank lying around it would be a great diy project. You'll probably get more info. In the diy section of the forum. Or hardware.

*Ask a mod to move this to the diy or hardware section of the forums

Ok thanx a lot onemisterchristian, i sort of knew what it was and just wanted to know for sure, i have got another tank which i'm planning on using it's about 18" long i think it's about 8 gallons will that be ok??

i have 3 systems like this for trops,

the best and easiet way to do this is to drill your tank so the water can overflow to the hole and down to the sump and then at the other side of the sump just a simple pump to return the water. (this method is power cut safe etc etc.) this will circulate the water very well. drilling a tank is simple but takes about 10 mins for a thick glass. a very simple DIY job if you have even a little common sense
