OK i was supposed to go and do some stuff for my boss, while returning i saw this local pond (natural
ponds, we have many here) and what i didn`t realise earlier was the various species of plants available tthere
. plus remember the catch, there were huge colonies of snails in there if even i plan to take some i don`t know how to treat the plants snail free before planting them in my aquarium. should i was them with soap to clean the snail eggs.
these snails are sure plant eaaters so i better be cautious.
still lovely set of plants there, maybe i should take a dip and get some fror all of us. :hyper: :hyper:

Wow, great find. If the water looks ok and there are fish living it I would grab some next time, just give them a good wash in clean water, but I wouldn't advise using soap if your planning on adding them to an aquarium with fish!

As long as you give them a good swish to remove any eggs by hand along with any obvious snails you should be fine. Amaizing to have a local free source of plants if only it was that easy in the UK :hyper:

yes there were crabs, fish and loads of plants. I grabbed a few fresh ones, i m sure they are gonna look great in the aquarium will make a journal on it as soon as i get free.

Crunch; you'll need to 'disinfect' the plants before you put them in your tank; they could be carrying any number of fish diseases/parasites.

Give them a short (an hour or two) soak in a very, very strong salt solution and then keep them in a bucket for a week (most fish parasites die off after 4 or 5 days if they don't find a host) and they should be safe to add to your tank.

You're welcome, and thank you, crunch. I haven't been around much this week, as my dad died suddenly on Monday, but I'm ok (considering the circumstances anyway :-( )

wouldn't the high conc salt draw the water out via osmosis? and kill the plants if there in there for to long?
would it be better to dip (1 or 2 secs) in bleach then dechloro
