Decided it must be time to frag my finger coral but have 2 questions before i go in for the kill

first off is it better to use a cocktail stick and elastic band to hold the leather frag in place or is it better to use gel super glue?

and is it best to completely remove the coral so that it can be rinsed in some tank water after I have cut the frag off or is it better to leave in the tank and cut a bit off in there?

Personally I would go for the super glue to stick it. When I have tried using bands to attached corals before it has either been too tight and damaged the coral or too lose and it has blown away.

Definitely frag outside the tank if you can. Leathers give off a very thick mucus layer when handled which is not good for the tank so best to remove it from the tank and use water from the tank to rinse it off. There was a really good video showing how to frag leathers but I dont have the link to hand im afraid.

Putting them in a small dish with rock rubble and walls of the dish as tall as the coral works real well. Keeps them out of the tough flow long enough for them to attach to rubble, then you can glue the rubble to whatever you want.
