hi

freind of mine has developed a serious leak in his tank tonight so i have been left holding the baby, a 4" tiger oscar.

trouble is i have no experience of keeping oscars, my tank is of an african theme which has low lighting, lots of plants and bogwood and the following residents:

1x african knife 5"
2x ornate ctenopoma 2"
3x leopard ctenopoma 2.5"
2x senegal bichir 5"

the ctenopoma are shy by reputation but mine are very outgoing and dont seem phased at all (crosses fingers).

the knife on the other hand in very shy and a timid feeder

tank is 48x18x18, probs have to keep him for 4-6 weeks, anyone see any problems arising or any suggestions on how to accomadate the oscar?

no cant see any problems, as long as he doesnt decide to eat your birchirs, dought it mind, i have a two 12+inche oscars with a 7-8inch senegal without any problems, oscars are fine with low lighting :good: just make sure you keep up the waterchanges as oscars are messy bu#$ers :good:

ps.........they like uprooting plants

as far as cichlids go oscars are quiete forgiving in temprement so its more common they get picked on then be picked on
ive seen some mean individuals though so keep an eye, but i think it should be fine.

when my uncles tank broke i had to look after his 2 14" oscars temporarily in a 4ft tank! so its not so bad

just feed them first at dinner time! But yes u probably wont have many plants left, as for the other fish u should be fine, they are still quite small and usually grow up well with various species.

everything seems in order after his first night.

kind of interesting havining him in there, as mostly my tank looks pretty empty until meal times
