It's finally happening. I can't believe it! I had some extra work come in so decided to make a purchase & cover the delivery fee.

I've 10 Forktail Blue-Eyed Rainbow Fish coming this week for my 58L tank.

Currently tank has 7 male endlers & some platy fry that will be going to the fish shop soon.

Yay Mohawks  at some point I might add a false zebra pleco (max size 3"). I think 60cm isn't very big for a Bristlenose (max 5"), which Is prefer.

No pics yet but lots of excitement :yahoo:

Add salt to their tank as soon as you get them. Salt reduces stress and helps treat minor injuries they sustained being caught and bagged up.

Add 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt for every 20 litres of tank water. Keep salt in there for 2 weeks.

Do a gravel clean and big water change a day or two before the fish arrive so the tank is clean when you get the fish. This will mean the fish are going into a clean tank and don't get exposed to water changes for a week.

Great idea thank you! It's an overnight delivery service. Should I keep the tank dark at first?

I have melafix too - is that good to use or just salt?

Don't use melafix, just use salt.
If you ever get livebearers, goldfish or rainbowfish, just use salt.

Have the tank lights off on the day you get the fish, and turn them on the day after you get them. That way they can settle in to a dimly lit tank instead of a brightly lit one.

Brilliant thank you!

Fish arrived last night& a week's delay because the shop made an error. Well they settled in well but I noticed this morning that 9 of the 10 are actually spotted blue eye and not forktail blue eye. I'm a tad furious.

I got 9 of these:

And only 1 of these:

The Forktail has stringer blue eye, blue stripe along top, and no spots in fins. Argh.

Internet pics & my pics.

Nightmare! I know how specifically you researched these so to be let down by the shop must really sting

Yeah I'm quite annoyed. I mean I could keep them but they aren't as nice looking a fish. I know they have no more in stock so not even sure what the suggestion would be. They require about 40ppm lower hardness than I have which isn't terrible & 0.5-1ph lower too. Plus i have 1 dude on his own in a group of his cousins.

Ok they've called me and said misidentified on their part. They are getting the correct fish in this week and will quarantine first & then send to me. I can keep the current fish or if I don't want them return to their Galway store when restrictions ease.

Really wouldn't have minded except for this fish and the time I've spent looking for them. Will be a gorgeous tank though.

I ended up with a big mix of loaches years ago I wanted polka dots but when I got home realised they had bagged a mix of zebras yo-yos and polka dots in the end I tried to top up all the schools and over stocked my tank with loads of loaches and never really loved the tank for it - lesson since then has been if it’s not what you want don’t feel obligated to deal with it. You may need to keep them for now because of what’s going on but you may be able to rehome them in the near future?

Sorry you posted that while I was typing haha - glad it’s worked out

Yeah I think they'll be fine. The tank is been cleared of platy fry so will just have 7 Endlers, then the 9 spotted blue eye & 10 forktail. They're all small fish that max out around 2.5-3cm. and it's a 60cm x 30cm tank.

Yeah that sounds cool my lfs has some p.paskai in at the moment that I’m tempted by. My water is a bit hard for them but I do question the fact that since they are in there will they ever end up in a tank that would suit them better? Hmmmm
