Fluval vs Eheim

Just wondering in everyones experience......which is better?
I am buying a 180g and want canisters but I need advice.

They are both ok filters. You'll get a lot of differing opinions but I assume that's what you're looking for.

So if you want opinions... I like Emperors better than either of those.

I was never happy with my Fluvel, the Rena canister filters that I'm now using seem to do a much better job. Tho I must add that I plumbed my tank with PVC and then attached the Renas(hated the Rena plumbing that was provided).


I'll look into the Emperor canister filters for my new tank. I have no experience with this brand. 8D

Oh yeah, what about canister filters with built in heaters?

Has anyone had any experiences with these?

I have always used Eheim canisters, (usually with extra passive canisters on them). The experience I have with Fluval stems from my mate Bob's fish house. He had a load of them, and the sealing rings always seemed to leak a bit, and the pipe connectors always struck me as fiddly, god knows how many hours I've spent over there fiddling with the damn things.

I totally agree with Lateral Line about the fluval, they seem to need a lot of 'adjusting'.

fluval filters are very good if they are in-tank filters.....if i was buying an out-of-tank filter id go for the eheim

i have a interpet canister with a built in heater although i only have a 100L tank, i would recommend one with a built heater i have had no problems with it, a main advantage is the space you save

I have a fluval and it seems to work fairly well but I really hate cleaning time.
Seems to be more of a pain than the hob type. You would think since they are more expensive they could be easier to maintain.

I'm seriously considering putting a couple of larger water-heating canister filters on my newer aquarium, so, I'll be sure to look into this brand, I've not heard of it(of course I'm not one of the the more knowledgeble members ).

I've never cared for all of the accessories we're forced to have hanging in our tanks, to maintain a healthy environment for our fish, so, combining a canister filter, with a heater, sounds like a winning idea.
