I am going to get an elite 95 litre aquarium and I need to choose a filter. I have two in mind which are Fluval U2 and Fluval U3. On the pets at home website it says The Fluval U2 is for 45 to 110 litres and the U3 is for 90 to 150 litres. My fish tank is a 95 litre so which option should I choose? Thanks. :D

You can choose either. You might try visualizing the size of these boxes inside the aquarium and think about whether you can work your plants and decorations around the larger one, in which case you'd get a larger media volume (never a bad thing.) With the gravel-cleaning-water-changing skilss we hope you'll learn here though, the smaller filter should be fine for your needs unless you stock heavily with messy fish or something like that. Both of those filters get good recommendations by many members here.

I have a U2 in my 90l, but it doesnt have many fish in it. I think if i had it fully stocked i'd go for a U3. Great filter tho :good:

I would go for U2, the U3 is a massive filter and it may not fit? IMO the U3 is too powerful for a 95 litre tank

Not sure I agree Carlove. The filter that comes with the Fluval Roma 125 is the U3 and that tank is not that much bigger. I have actually stuck a U3 in my 70 litre and it is fine. Doesn't seem too big.

Ive never owned a U3 but heard alot of bad story's about them. I would go for a fluval 3 plus i use one on a 70L and its great although quite chunky but no more than the U3.

Get a Fluval 3+ for about £20

The Fluval U3 and U4 are huge internal filters, can't believe you think they aren't big  , but we are all entitiled to our own opinion

I've been using fluval plus 3 's in a couple of my tanks with no problems-you can always drop the flow down if its too strong. Cool filters and cheap now i think since the u3's have come out.

go for the u3 i have an elite 95 with a u3 in it does fit and does a great job

got mine from ebay new for £30

I have the 4+ in a 90L tank. It is a big filter, but very quiet and the current isn't too strong for the fish.
As the others said, since the U's are out, the + are very cheap! Worth a look if you can find one.

But to answer your question, get the U3. Seeing as I have the 4 in my tank and it isn't too strong, the U3 will be fine, and the more filtration the better!

Thank you for the replies everyone, they were very helpful. I think I'm going to get the Fluval U3 as it provides more filtration which is always a good thing. Thanks. :D

oh sorry ive got the 2 plus not the U2 - dont know what the difference is, but the water is crystal clear in a 90l with only a few fish.

I think you've made the right choice with the U3. I have the U2 in my 60l and although it's sufficiant, I do sometimes think it could do with a bit extra.
