Hi everyone,

After reefing (saltwater) for a while, I've decided to take a step into freshwater aquatics. I've had this tank setup for quite a while and just recently changed the substrate and lighting. I felt the lighting for the Edge was slightly limited as since I love the design so much, I decided to setup my own LED lighting. It's basically an arrangement of SMD LED strips.

The tank looks absolutely stunning now - fully lit, and believe me, the pics do not do justice - it really brings out the colour of your stock! I've connected the non-white LEDs to a separate transformer which allows for a 'night mode' which is absolutely stunning, again the pics do not show the extent of how beautiful this looks. I've got one red platy in there for now, I may or may not add some shrimp later on.

Other details about setup:
Substrate: Unipac Ice white sand (1mm GS)
Bogwood piece
Moss balls

There is a way to brighten up your Edge!
Any questions please ask.

looks wicked, where did you get the led strips from?
Got them made by an LED lighting specialist, he's also a seller on eBay. Just gave him the dimensions and colors and it was sent out the next day. I'd be happy to give you his details.

Wow!! That looks amazing, very fresh and contemporary. B-) :good: :good:

looks very nice any chance of some picture with the lighty off just to see the difference and that sand looks great have you got a closeup picture of that? how hard is it to keep the sand clean

can you provide details on the light seller

Looks like a salty tank with an alien fw fish in it :p nice though if your into the modern clean look :)

Very clean, my mates one annoyed the hell out of him as the filter kept pushing the sand out the way and showing the glass bottom lol.

Sure I'll get the details and post them as soon as.

I'll get some 'lights-off' pics for you too and a close-up of the sand. Cleaning has been relatively easy; I turn the filter off, toss the sand around a few times, turn the filter on and it takes care of the rest. I've got some shrimp that take care of the algae.

There is a way around that. It's just fluid mechanics really; you need to alter the way in which the water falls out of the filter thus changing the circulation patterns. I've attached a plastic piece at the outlet of the filter forcing the water to flow at a (roughly) 10-20 degrees angle relative to the surface and so this eliminates the problem you've described. I can post some pics of how it looks if you'd like. It's very simple DIY; find a plastic plate and some superglue.
