Hi its been a while since i been on here so here goes ,I have bought a fluval roma 200L that has come withe the fluval 205 external filter and am looking for any advice on how to set it up. the tank is an upgrade from a fluval 70L with 4 cory jullis had ten but six died fews months after cycling my tank which was cycled with ammonia. and six black phantom barbs all been doing fine for past year.any advice on the filter would be very much appreciated.the filter has 3 compartments the first 2 have fluval bio max and the 3rd has 2 bags of carbon in it.do i need to keep the carbon in it or can i put some of the mature media in its place to cycle my tank. also how long will it take for the new tank to cycle or will the fish be ok to change over with some of the mature filter which is in a fluval plus 2 :thanks:

I think the foams in the Fluval 2+ fit directly into the foam pre-screen of the 205. If so, simply move all the mature media in the old tank across and then move the fish :good: I'd ditch the carbon for some more bio-balls :good: Also, get a tray under the filter for when it leaks, and keep all the seals covered in Vaseline to make them fail with a small seepage leak rather than snapping as they do if you don't keep them covered with Vaseline or similar (silicone O-Ring grease) :shifty:

Im really interested in this too because I have just managed to get my hands on a Fluval 205 and im upgrading from a Fluval 2+ as well! :)

The Fluval 205 takes the same foams as the 305.

I have a 305 and a Fluval 2+, foams in the 2+ are too small to fit into the foam screen on the 305.

They are even too small to fit into the 105.

However, it's very easy to cut them in two and just place them in a media basket in on top of the bioballs, or in place of the carbon (which is best saved for when you actually need it, using it at the start is a waste).
