Our Fluval 2 plus pumped died in the middle of the night and is only putting out the tinyest amount of flow!!

I have taken it out to look for any blockages and cant see any

the impellar is spinning freely

im really stuck

-what should i do? will the fish be ok?

please help

Take the head of the filter, remove ithe impellor and get a toothbrush old one and rub it inside where the impellor goes, also scrub inside the blue outflow nozzle, i sometimes give it a ban on the side to unblock the muck, buck not to hard don't want to break it.

thats the thing though i hav tried running the impeller and its fine and i have blown through the blue tube and it doesn seem blocked, i have just tried tapping it etc and nothing -

will the fish be ok for the minute??

any other suggestions?

thanks Wilder!

Believe me fluval do play up i've been half an hour trying to getting it going again, don't rate them at all, if you have to buy another one go for eheim aquaball will leave you a link, right do you have an airstone for extra aeration, don't feed the fish, and i would recommend a water change.

have you tried cleaning 1 of the sponges in there, mine does that sometimes & i just rinse 1 of them & they work fine after that :dunno:
i've got the fluval 2 & 3 + & they both do this :D

yeah thats how mine are held in kinda sucks it out of ya hand when you putting it back lol

one thing i have noticed is that the impeller just seems to be held in place by a magnet - is this right?

Yes the magnet hold it in, mine broke the silver thing fell out, but it still works, ut I save it for an emergency, right nowthing to lose at the moment, remove the impellor and the casing and give it a good bang a few times on the kitchen surface.

I have a Fluval2+ aswell, and mine does this from time to time, i just take it out, put it into a bucket, take the catridge out with sponges in, give them a squeeze out, make sure there are no blockages, and usually it works again fine straight away :D

phew....

35 minutes of man handling later and its pumping away merily!!

thanks all

Good panic over.

It happened to my Fluval 2+ once before too. It took a good hour of sweat (and practically tears of frustration!) to get it going again. I had to take every last single bit apart and wash it out under a strong shower jet. I think the problem was that there was a little gunk inside the impeller - taking it out and shoving a jet of water in there loosened up the gunk.

Glad it's working now
