Thanks to all who took the time to read my massive first post, and offered their help and advice.
My other half and I are now planning on adding the Fluval 2plus filter to our tank for extra filtration, but as it came in a box of loose bits and pieces with our tank we're not sure what we need to put in it? We've got no manual!

I've looked on Ebay and see foam pads, poly pads and carbon pads. Which/how many do I need to put in it? One of the auctions said to put a carbon pad between 2 foam pads, but what about the poly pads? No idea what the difference is between the foams and the poly. I know we need a carbon pad, to add chemical filtration.

thanks!

you need the 2 foam pads and the carbon pad between them the poly pads you dont need i tried the poly pads in my 2+ and there a waste of time all they do is block your filter up every other day

Thanks folks :) Will order some foam and carbon pads.
I wonder how the bubbles will be on this filter? The powerhead on my UGF makes really really fine bubbles (so tiny that if they stick to the fish I'd almost think it was ich!)

If you havent already don't waste your money on carbon pads. They are just a gimmick and contrary to advertisement they actually need to be changed every few days, which adds up fast financially. Carbon is useful for removing medications and that is it IMO.

Every few days? Eep, can't afford that kind of expense. I'm already wondering how much the extra filter will add to our electricity bill, let alone considerations of the cost of media for it >.<;;

Ok, foam pads it is! But, perhaps I'll get some carbon ones just to have on standby in case we need to medicate and need the carbon after.

thanks!

The venturi on the plus filters isn't that fine tbh but you can turn them on or off with the nozzle or just fully submerge the filter so you don't get bubbles if you don't want them :)

I agree about the carbon too. Just use it to remove meds if ncecessary :)
