Floating plant suggestions

Probably the simplest to get is Lemna minor, (Duckweed), often get it whether you want it or not! Can become a pest as it spreads very quickly, get's sucked into filters, etc.

Riccia fluitans, (Crystalwort), is attractive. It is also a very "fashionable" plant, the trend at the moment is to grow it submerged.

Ordinary Ceratophyllum demersum, (Hornwort), will work just fine floating on the surface, in fact, keeping it "rooted" is more of a problem.

There are other floating plants of course.

yeah tell me about it, i bought salvinnnia natans (amazon frogbit) floating plants and it came with a little duckweed, two weeks later the duckweed covers half the water surface. Will be skimming it this weekend.

I have trouble finding floating plants too. My LFS keep assuring me that they get them next week every time I go in, and I go in quite often.

I've been reduced to just letting my plants grow very tall, so that they peak through the water surface. I still live in hope though that the LFS will get them.

i tried 2 LFSs at the weekend with no luck...

actually, one of them did have something but i didn't like it. it looked a bit like floating tumbleweed, mostly green, but with too much dead-brown for my liking

I think they are hard to get hold off most of the time in Lfs. I buy my plants by mail order, much better value and choice.

You must have one in Oz :D
