So Iā€™ve performed the water change today, kept my filter in tank water in a bucket. Added SeaChem prime to the water before adding to the tank. Iā€™ve got the filter heater and air stone running again. Added Ammonia as I did previous, now Iā€™m Going to give it a few hours then retest and add ammonia.

So as if by magic 3 days later after the water change I have nitrites. Nitrites reading 0.5 ppm, the ammonia doesnā€™t appear to have dropped so still reading at 2ppm. Am I right in thinking wait until ammonia drops to 1ppm before dosing back up to 2ppm and keep monitoring nitrites ?
Thanks again for all the help

Ammonia needs to be under 0.75 ppm and nitrite above 2 ppm before adding the next dose of ammonia. This is a 3 ppm dose.
Once you've reached that target and added the ammonia, the testing regime changes to once every 2 days. You will be looking for zero ammonia and zero again two days later. There must be 2 zero readings before adding a 1 ppm snack dose.
