Hello. 8)

I am looking to buy some fish that will swim in shoals (or schools) together. I am thinking of getting some Neon Tetras. But what other types of tetras are there? And will they go off in there different colours?

Thnx in advance!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum,

There are literally hundreds of different tetras available but they should all be kept in groups of at least 6 of the same variety. Cardinals will shoal with neons as they have similar colours. Have a look in the fish index on the main page for some ideas. My favourites are rummy nose, cardinal, glowlight and marbled hatchets. What size tank are you going to keep them in?

Emma :D

My tank is 12 UK Gallons or 14 US Gallons or 55 Litres. My dad has completely re-done it with new rocks plants everything, new filter aswell.

We are just cycling it now ready for when we put my old fish back in. (They are in a quarantine tank)

Hi,

If you get a shoal of 6 neons you could also get some dwarf corys for the bottom, either corydoras habrosus, corydoras hastatus or corydoras pygmeous, they stay smaller than the average cory at around an inch. Other corys grow 2.5-3 inches. Corys should be in groups of 3+ you can find pictures of these fish on www.planetcatfish.com in the catelogue section. Or you could get some small shrimps such as amano shrimp or cherry shrimp. What fish do you have at the minute?

Emma :)

Cool ;)

The fish I have in my quarantine tank are not gonna survive I can tell. The only one that might see this through is colin the catfish (small one) as he is sturdy and has probably lived longer than most of the other fish. And my dad guessed that as well since it'll be 7 days before we can restock the tank.

Thats why when ive got more money, i'll take a trip down my local maidenhead aquatics store to decide on some good fish and hopefully purchase some.

Also I'll re-attempt getting them to breed so we can have even more! :kana:

Also most shoaling fish when safe in a tank won't shoal much, though i do find harlequins seem to keep up with shoaling.

Thnx for the info! :)

I think i'll get some mollys and some tetras when ive saved up.

Best shoaling fish I've had are rummynose tetras.

Very tight shoal all the time - just don't want to be alone I guess.

Tetras I have (Blue Emporor) seem much less disciplined - shoal a bit, drift off all over then back together again.

penguin tetras are ultra tight shoalers, in my lfs wen u walk past they swoop round together, thing is there £20!! for 6!!!...must be rare! :D
