Hi all myself and the gf have been debating a tropical fish tank for some time now and are about to take the plunge

We have narrowed the tank choice down to 2

The fluval venezia 190 litre corner tank

And secondly the fluval roma 240 litre tank

Now for the availble space i prefer the 2nd one and from what i can see its accesories in terms of pumps etc see of the same standard.

Am i missing something with the second tank ? it seems a cheap price v even the non curve version of the venezia one

Hi welcome to the forum! I would go for the roma 240 rectangle tanks are best IMO as they have the biggest area for gas exchange. Also its bigger in volume so that means more fish ;)

Now what do you know about cycling?

Wills

if you do go for the roma 240 just get some fishtank safe silicone and seal the inside of the plastic topping to the glass as mine and many others leak a little

Now what do you know about cycling?

Well i do have a rather nifty mountain bike :p

Only thing i know about cycling is what ive read on here about nitrate nitrite and amonia levels trying to make as much sense of it as i can.

Yes, then sounds like you need your first homework assignment: read the first 4 articles in the "Cycling" list of the Beginners Resource Center. The BRC is at the top of the "Your New Freshwater Tank" subforum, which we are now in. Post up questions here in your thread. A 240L sounds like a great tank. We generally recommend about 5x turnover for the flow rate of the filtration, so you'd want to find the specifications of your filters and try to determine that actual flow rate (not necessarily the "this filters size x tanks" statement") and then see if the volume flow per hour of all filters added up is 5 times the volume of your tank (5x240L=1200L/hour)

Well done at finding what I think is the best online UK site for tank kits!

The Roma 240 deal does look pretty impressive for just over £250, especially for a tank and official cabinet.

May I suggest you go and visit your Local Fish Shops (LFSs) with a printout of the Seapets deal... I did and got my local Maidenhead Aquatics branch to pricematch the Seapets offer for the Juwel Rio 240 (£350), which I took delivery of 12 days ago. If anything goes wrong with the tank or the equipment, its far less hassle to pop locally to sort out faulty items (for example, Juwel allow straight swaps while under g'tee, I believe), not to mention you will help support your local store, which may well be suffering fianancially after the recent recession.
