just got home, checked all my fish tanks as usual. fry tank at 33 degrees c!!! amazingly everything is still alive in there. I've swithched the heater off, but now what?

heater is a theo 25watt. i've only had it couple of months. any ideas of how to fix it?

i wouldnt risk using it anymore if its faulty
i'd only need it temporaily... its 5.30 on a sunday. why don't these things happen when the shops are open?

i think once the temperatures dropped i'll put them in a fry trap and into another tank.

Hey, don't mess with it, take it back pronto! Beg borrow or steal one untill a replacement can be found. Temperature changes leads to stress which can lead to deaths later on down the road....good luck

these thing are sent to try us
put the fry in a trap and get a new one tomorrow,if its only a couple of months old id demand a refund

Looking at the bigger picture, there is NO WAY on planet earth that I'd be putting a KNOWN piece of FAULTY electrical equipment that is connected to the MAINS, into WATER. I know it is intended to go into water in the first place, but it is FAULTY!!!!

Go figure. PUT IT IN THE BIN AND STOP USING IT. (Or as suggested take it back to the shop if you can).

You wouldn't want it to kill someone (or you), would you?

if it's still hot in that tank i suggest putting some ice cubes to cool it down. little fry could die easily from really hot water.

Andy, thanks for the concern, but don't worry - I was gonna get the missus to switch it on anyway :p
I see your point with the whole water/electricity thing. Getting electricuted to save myself £20 for a new heater is a bit daft. But i'm guessing its a simple thermostat in there and it can't be that difficult to fix.

Anyway, I'll be taking it back to shop. Could do with an excuse to go fish shopping.

Yep, sorry had to be said just in case.

LOL My kind of thinking. LOL (Can I borrow it when you've 'finished with it' arf arf).

These things are potted in a hard setting resin (potting compound), so are actually nigh-on impossibe to fix. They really are chuck away items when they go phut.

if your a repeat customer where you got your filter you shouldn't have any problems exchanging it. I just had a heater litarally explode and had to run to walmart and buy one of theres cause my lfs was closed at 9:30 at night. When i took it in the next day i told them what happened and that i already replced the heater cause it was after hours and they gave me store credit for it with out a reciept. If they give you a hard time then start useing a different source for your goods.
