Hello I just bought a new 55 gallon tank and I have been cleaning it out and everything and the guy I bought it from just informed me that the fish in the tank had Fin Rot. What do I do? 55 Gallon Tank no Fish in it, it has an underground filter system he made. I am just thinking about getting rid of that and getting a New filter that is not a underground one? Please help ;-)

would bother with hob filters, get a decent filter ; it is the most important part of the tank.

As for cleaning the tank you could clean it with bleach

Bleach is a good method of cleaning just make sure you rinse very very well.
aslo I would get a new filter but... underground filters are the best in my opion because the clean the substrate that hold nasty stuff that can harm your fish. A good way to go is to get substrate filter and one that cleans the top as well to clean all aspects of the tank. BUT this does not eliminate the use for water change. I do 30-50 percent water change every weekend to keep fish happy. :good: :)

i would go for a external filter for a 55 gal tank, and do away with the underground filter, these can cause problems if maintainance isn't kept up.Fin rot can be caused by poor water quality.hence poor filtration/maintanance.

Heressome filters that are good value for money, shop around, you want a filter that filters over 55 gals in theory.

Has mentioned give the tank a good clean, change the substrate,if wanting to keep corys go for sand :good:
