Hi all, my parents are looking after a friends tropical tank for them for a year or so. I didn't know she was getting it untill it came, no idea about hte fish that are in it, other than one died the day they took ownership of it, my dad was gutted to say the least.

Anyways here are the fish: (there is one of the black ones, think the other that died was same kind. 3 of the orange ones with one 'baby', one of the smaller silver ones and one of the longer silver one)

Thanks for helping!

One in the 1st picis a betta, I would say a female but can't get a good look. I think the lemon colored ones are mollies and the silver one witha black line down it is a tetra, not sure which type though.

Safe to say that the biorb they are in is too small for all of them

Aren't the lemon coloured ones platties? Either way one of them looks pregnant, or well fed.

Penguin Tetra?

Female Betta, Platys, Harlequinns and at a guess another rasbora of some description.

As said its a baby biorb which tbh isn't suitable for much more than the one betta

Excellent thanks for the help, yea I was thinking there was too much in that small tank, probably re-house a few of them in my own tank when I get it going.

What are the chances of any of the fry surviving in the tank do you think? The big harlequin or tetra (not the rasbora) seems to chase the platies quite alot, is it a territorial fish?

What chance? Any chance is thrown out the window, when you have a betta hanging about. If she doesn't get them, then the spawning fish will eat them due to the threat of the betta.

I'd say with all them in there, they would need a good 40 -50ltr tank

Ok thanks, wasn't sure as I don't really know much about how territorial fish are.

Unfortunately, for me, bettas are not very good at fry population control. Although they will eat any fry they happen to catch, they are terrible fish predators. The platies themselves will eat more fry than the betta and the tetras and rasboras will also do their share of fry eating. You may have one or two platy fry survive once in a great while but do not expect many at all in a tank that small.
