I got my mom a Betta setup for her birthday, and now she's an addict too, she is thinking about getting a 54 gallon corner tank. she likes really colorful fish, she seems to like cichlids, but I was just thinking of fish we could get for it if we get it. she likes colorful pretty fish, preferably freshwater. please sugest colorful fish for a 54g corner setup.

What are the demensions of the tank and what type of substrate are you using?

One piece of advice I can give you is no matter how cool you think corys are, your mother will never love them. "Ewww, what is THAT!"

I reccomend angelfish once the tank is cycled, provided it's tall enough, they are good mommy fish because they are pretty, not only in color, but shape too.

If your corner setup is going to be one of those really tall ones that is taller than your arm is i suggest to you dont get it get a losg tank as they are near impossible to clean properly when you can reach down to the bottom they look like real nice tanks and all but you migt find it hard to clean. Also you are sort of stuck with those magnetic cleaners and cant give it a proper scrub when need. And if you ever want to add plants later or add decor or remove anything you have to empty the thing right out to get to anything on the bottom, but if the tank is not so tall you might be ok

the main thing to think of when you get those tanll tanks is if it was full of water can i reach the bottom of the tank with my arm

trust me your going to need to one day and youll find it real hard

my freind has one and now he wishes he got the long tank instead also when he gets new plants he has to tie a sinker to the bottom and drop it in and were it lands is were it stays

just a few thing to think of when getting one of these tanks

Thanx, we're going to check it out today, I will try to see if I cann reach the bottom

I will say this at the risk of sounding like an idiot, but, Angelfish are freshwater, I thought they were saltwater. How many would go in a 54g I will give demensions later, but I know it is a 54g corner tank.

There is a saltwater angelfish ;)

You can get 5 angels in a 54g and they will look stunning. Then, maybe 10 harlequin rasboras and 10 cories (I love cory cats and I bet your mom will too as soon as she sees them scampering all over the tank!).

Maybe a couple of dwarf gouramis and/or a pair of blue or gold rams or even Bolivian rams.

That way she gets cichlids - both the angels and the rams are New World cichlids.

That's pretty similar to the direction I'm heading with my tank :)

A few school of different types of tetras will add colour. also, you could get sterbai or adophoi cories, both of these have pretty orange bits on them :)

Are you going for large or small fish?

Neons and other tetras, rasboras, etc. can add lots of color and a flurry of activity.

Angels and cichlids are colorful and pleasing to look at and they have an air of grace to them. If you go for these fish, you might also make a little money on the side selling fry, provided that you get pairs of cichlids, of course. :D

Good luck with the fish finding.

I would recommend cichlids myself. I plan on getting a 55g and making it a cichlid tank sometime in the near future. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Brad

I was reccomending freshwater angels, lol, sorry if I confused you. My mom thinks cories are the ugliest things in the world, but maybe our mommies are different, and if thats the case, cories are awesome - get some, lol.
