WEll in my 100 gal the fish were getting a long well little nit here and here but no one got hurt. till now. my smaller Uaru has become a big time JERK and is constantly biting the larger Uaru. The 2 use to be buds and would keep all others in check. But not the smaller one tuned on his friend. I took him out and and will see how things go.

Now the Uaru and Parrot are going at it. all hells seems to be breaking in this tank. I don't know what the out come will be yet. I think this power struggle has been brought on by my little Red spot not being so little any more and he has started to move up in the pecking order. So now the others are working out who is who. BUt I had to take this Uaru out because he was leaving my Other one ragged.

IT will be interesting to see what happens. Cichlids are crazy. but we all know that. Looks like I will have to sort out my stock after all.

Cichlids eh ? Who'd keep em ?

Sorry to hear of the aggro. I suspect you are right about the pecking order adjusting as your sev grows. Also, as your uaru mature, they might well be experiencing hormonal changes, causing extra "grunpiness".

Gotta love cichlids, they know ow to keep you on your toes don't they! Either you'll find a solution or they will in time, hopefully it'll be before you lose any stock though :)

this can and usually does happen when you mix lots of different cichlids in 1 tank. i had exactly the same problems . hopefully things will calm down for you soon , but if not you may well be faced with some tough decisions about keeping/rehoming some fish . ahh the joys of cichlid keeping

The best solution is just buy another tank for the naughty fish.

I gave the naughty fish a good time out of 30 Min in a bucket. Then added him back because the Extra tanks I have needs to be cleaned and I clogged the tub or so I thought so. Any ways I'm keeping an eye on the fresh Uaru and if he keeps it up out he goes I will have my back up tank ready now. I'm going to watch this power struggel and see what happens.

It got me thinking I should just turn the 100 Gal into a Disucs tank. They get along better with eachother but still act like cichlids. We will see.

Star I don't need another tank I need a bigger tank ;) 180Gal or 200Gal would be good.

On a side not my angle pair is getting along again after I destroyed thier relationship.

Mmmmm, I'll have to try a "naughty bucket" for my port acara

He was previously very placid if not moody but is now getting jealous of M / F Rotkeil lip action....he is breaking up perfectly fine lip locking then expecting the female sev to hang with him....her body language is saying it all...I'll be thinning out the stock by rehoming a min of 3 Rotkeils after X-mas

I hope your Uaru and Parrot get through the tantrum situation

Th naughty bucket helped a little he is not as mean to his old buddy any more.

My little red spot severum is more out going now that he has moved up in the ranks.

keep a close eye on him tho . every time ive used thge whole "naughty step" treatment its only ever had temporary effect , then things reverted back to how they were

Yeah things seem to be back to normal. The naughty Uaru has chilled out because the Nip my Green severum is the boss of him but my parrot is still the boss of the Green severum and the Buffalo head is the boss of everyone and he is the smallest haha. Things seem to be ok for now. If my tank was not over stocked like it is I don't think it would work but they all keep eachother in check.
