Greetings forum members,

I'm having some issues with my fishies, a few have died already.

I have a fully cycled heavily planted 29 Gal tank.

Tank info:
29 Gal (109 Liters)
1 x Penguin 200 HOB 2 x filter pads installed
1 x Fluval AquaClear 50 HOB
Injected CO2 (off at night)
Mid-high lighting: on 9am-7pm, 7-pm - 9pm dusk setting, 9pm-11pm moonlight, off rest of night
Bubble stone, high surface agitation
Dose of Seachem Excel
PH: 7.2, Ammonia: 0 Nitrite:0 Nitrates: 5ppm - tested in morning & midday, also have Seachem Ammonia alert badge.
Temp: 76 F (24c)
40% weekly water changes , using Seachem Prime to detox water

Food:
Tetra Complete tropical fish food
1 x weekly bloodworms
Algae wafers
Invert pellets
Fast on Mondays

Stock:
1 x Dwarf Gourami * added 3 weeks ago
1 x Male Cobra Guppy * added Friday
1 x Bamboo shrimp * added 3 weeks ago
2 x Flower Shrimp * added Friday
4 x Oto * added thursday
4 x Ghost Shrimp * added 3 weeks ago

5 x Neon Tetra * added 3 weeks ago
5 x Glowlight Tetra * added 3 weeks ago
5 x Juli Cory Cat * added 3 weeks ago

6 x Assassin snails * added 3 weeks ago
25 x CPD * added Friday Juveniles
?? x vairous pest snails (they don't last long)
35 x species of plants, all low-midlight requirement
?? x Diatom algae (Otos cleaned the majority)

Conflicts: DG doesn't like the Otos of the left side of the glass and will chase them away. They've since learned to avoid that area and everyone else is peaceful.

Notes on recent fish additions: The fish added Friday were shipped from Cali & had 2 day transit time. They were slowly accumulated over 20 mins with small additions of tank water every 3 mins.
2 x CPD DOA
1 x Female Guppy DOA

Issues: Have been steadily losing the CPDs, 1 x dead first night, 2 x dead last night, 2 x dead this morning.
The majority of the CPDs have clamped fins and have not been eating. The 2 x Adult CPD seem fine. The group of them stay at the top of the tank.

The DG has had white stringy poops since I got him, however he seems fine and is as chipper as he's been since I've gotten him. He eats like a pig.

I noticed one of my Cory cats has the following issue:

What would your recommendations be? I've read online that API General Cure is highly recommended because it has antibacterial and anti parasite ingredients in it. Would you guys recommend running a course of this med?  Will this harm my inverts?

I will be running out to my lfs tomorrow (pay day) so any advice before then would be greatly appreciated.

Update:

Sold something on Craigslist and got some cash.

Talked to my LFS and they suspect some sort of internal parasite or flukes.

Dosed with the recommended amount of API general cure.

Was cleaning the gravel today and discovered 5 more CPD corpses.

Put the half amount of recommended amount of Aquarium salt due to plants / cory cats.

Of the 30 originally purchased less than half are still alive. With exception of the Cory cat with the white dot on his head, all other tank mates are doing well.

Can you tell me what a CPD is.
What symptoms are you noticing?
Any signs of gasping?
laboured breathing?
Flicking and rubbing?
Swimming in a jerky Movement?
Darting, or erratic swimming?
Turning upside down?
Excess slime on fins, body, gills?
Do the gills look red and inflamed?
Any tiny red pin prick marks on the fish?

CPD = celestial pearl danio, aka galaxy rasbora

Gasping at surface of tank
fish are super thin and sickly looking, some have a bent spine
impossible to tell if the gills are red and inflamed as the CPD has naturally red gill area.
The corpse of the dead Danio's is white in puffy.  See image here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/itetgrp0ua6gd0i/20140601_220418.jpg

Based on symptions it may be columnaris.

None of the other tankmates are effected, it seems to be localized to the CPD and a single neon tetra who was wounded by the LFS. It appears to be an opportunistic infection that only attacks stressed fish.

Twenty minutes is a very short period or acclimation. I wonder if there is something related between the illness and the rushed acclimation.

Are any of the living danios covered in a similar white fluff or does this only show up after they have died?
I would do a water change everyday for a week and see if any one perks up, too.

Also I just noticed you wrote puffy an not fluffy. I'm not wearing my glasses, silly me.

Can i just ask if the fish gill's are red and inflamed what can that be? just my clown loaches that were stressed etc had that, you remember the convo we had about the clowns wilder? :)

I floated them in the water for 20mins & then hooked them up to my little drip acclimation mount thingy. The total time was around 45mins or so. Sorry I didn't put all the details, was a little rushed and panicky

The white moldy stuff shows only after death.

Update: All the CPD have died.

All other tank mates are fine.

The gourami has normal brown/red poops.

I went out and setup my 29gal biocube as a freshwater tank. I'm going to house my shrimps in this tank and treat the main tank with anti-fungal.

Are there any signs of flicking and rubbing?

Being skinny with a bent spine can indicate, fish tb, internal parasites, lack on vitamins.
I don't like the sound of it.

No signs of flicking or rubbing

All other fish appear to be fine.

I've treated the fish for internal parasites while the CPD were still alive. The white poop is no longer present.

I'm finishing the course of meds today & will likely treat with an anti-fungal next.

I need to rehome my inverts to my other tank (it appears to be cycled after moving 1 of my filters over on that tank)

I'm also replacing my HOB filters with a new sunsun canister filter. I'm going to run the HOB for 2 weeks along side the sunsun to let it properly seed.

What medication did you use for the internal parasites?

Full course of API general cure.

I had a minor fight breakout between the 2 x male guppy and the 5 x female guppy. The 2 females with the nipped fins had some sort of fungal infection as result.

Gave them a 30 sec bath of Methylene Blue 2 times and they're all better now.

I replaced the CPD's with Kyathit Danios and they are doing fine.

The stress of shipping must of been too much for the CPDs.

:(
