:hey: Hi guys, the tank I promised myself is now stocked. Fully cycled in 3 weeks with a couple of goldfish (you can still see them between the Malawis ). All my prize Malawi now transferred to their new home - they love the space

I was thinking that you said 100 litre... I was thinkng that maybe you meant 100 gal... but I see now that its like 250 gallons!

Beautiful tank you have there. What kind of equipment do you have running on it?

 Nice size of Aquarium

BTW. The small over tank lighting unit (for open top aquariums) what do you think of those units.

Yeah Thanks, I'm chuffed with it, - 2.2m long x 650 high x 500 wide ( just less than 250 gall, I think)
the old one was about 77gal (1.5m long x 650 high x 500 wide)

It's running on
2 off Atman EF-4 cannisters - 900 literp/h
2 off XL Powerheads with UG filters
3 off 300watt heaters
and thats it - so far so good

The project was full DIY - ordered baked glass and the lot ! assembled and made all, including stand, myself. It took a while  and a bit!

I have Heto, it's well made, the long one is the same, must still decide about adapting the fitting.
I wanted this tank to be open top,(don't like the lid)
The small one comes with 2 white globes, so far I could not find other colors to fit the unit, at first I wanted to put 3 of those over the top because I can't find one long enough to fit the whole length. But I'm working on another idea now. For the interim I will get another 1.5 m, so that I can put four different lights in them. they come without globes and you get all colors to fit the unit.

if you did that all by yourself i think that you could have done better with the aquascaping... its a little messy from the looks of the pictures... add some heigt to the tank!

don't be so hasty, I'm still working on it and it was getting late! remember I'm a married man, have to go bed some time!!

Will show pictures again when the new rockwork is done. It' going to be a really really nice high reef.

It's not as bad as it looks, there is a real nice network of caves and passages in there for fish to weave through if they want to loose a pursuer.
Ample hiding space for fry too - a couple of females are holding.

Can i see a picture of your tank?..

Looking good dutoits, some lovely africans in there! Are you planning on keeping the goldies in there?

Ben

i think its a good tank man. and i hate to give advice to experienced fishkeepers but have you considered putting a black background?

I like the facebrick background and I found that my fish have then more area to explore, seems to increase the depth perception.

The gold fish will be moved to the outside pond .

They been living between the malawi now for more than a week and nobody seems to notice them.

To reduce aggresion diversity is the secret.

:-( :S

Nice and big but I think you need a few more fish in thier. Those cichlids are bad for fighting when they have plenty space. I love my ccihlids but I keep them a bit overcrowded, It keeps down the fights.. Nice tank /

Most of the fish will become 6/11ins and to increase the numbers now will result that I will have reduce the numbers with in 6months

My female spawn every 4 weeks

I currenty have -+ 20 1cm fry.

there are currently 40 malawi in the tank lager than than 1ins
50% is more than 4ins
rest 6ins plus

That is a very cool looking tank is it hard to build a tank by yourself? If you don't have much experiance doing it?
